DIGIPILOT provides Optimum use of Rudder
There have been major improvements in automated heading and steering control systems technology. An integrated Navigation and Command System can achieve significant fuel savings (1 to 3%) by simply reducing the distance sailed “off track”. The better course control through less frequent and smaller corrections will minimize losses due to rudder resistance.
It also reduces maintenance cost on the rudder/helm system. Retrofitting of a more efficient autopilot (like DIGIPILOT) to existing ships has a high pay-off. During approaches to ports and pilot stations, a standard autopilot cannot always be used efficiently as the rudder has to respond quickly to given commands. Also, during some legs of the voyage it may have to be de-activated or very carefully adjusted, i.e. heavy weather and approaches to ports. DIGIPILOT works in all weather conditions including heavy sea states.
